LogicaCMG Energy Efficiency Survey

22 Mar

A telephone survey of 10,000 consumers across 10 European countries was conducted by LogicaCMG in 2007. Below are some of the most interesting findings (Sustain Blog).

  • 80% of consumers claimed that they were worried about climate change.
  • They found that people have no idea how much energy they are using, and that there is a disparity between what people think they are saving and how much they are actually saving via their actions.
  • 45% of respondents overall claimed that they had “no idea of how much energy” they were using at any moment (well over 60% in France and Spain).
  • Providing up-to-date information to consumers is key; even though three-quarters of people believe that their energy consumption affects climate change, if they do not know how much energy they are consuming than their concern is not put into an actionable context.
  • There was a very positive reaction to the idea of smart meters which provide immediate feedback as to what was being used in the home, especially among energy conscious or technologically savvy consumers.
  • Over 80% of respondents stated that a real-time feedback monitor in their home would make them change their day-to-day behaviour.
